Monkey orchid was only named in 1978 by the
botanist Luer but is in a family containing over 120 species mostly
found in Ecuador. Up in the cloud mountains the monkey orchid can flower

Monkey orchid (

lip which mimics the general shape of a monkey's body. The species' range is

It is noted for its pungent
odor, which is similar to that of feces.
An interesting plant indeed. Your photo is of something else though. It's still an orchid, but that I believe is in the Dracula genus and is not closely related to the monkey orchid at all.
